The Marzipan Incident

Ever had an OBSESSION? Something you needed to do immediately, simply couldn't get enough of, or use common sense about? I may have (a few times), but this is one (semi-)endearing characteristic of my husband that pops up frequently. Marzipan, desire for cheese-making, bonzai tree-creating, real root beer -making, pickeling...to name a few...are some obsessions of my husband. He keeps me on my toes with these quirky desires that pop up. Don't worry, they usually don't stress me, they mostly make me smile. After growing up a bit, he has recognized his typical symptoms and can determine if it is a "Marzipan Moment" or a true desire he would like to follow through with. He has come up with a brilliant (and comical) way to deal with these moments. He has created his own blog http://www.themarzipanincident.blogspot.com/ where he will feature the obsession of the moment. Hooray for my dear love! He has found an economically feasible way to fulfill his heart's (many) desires and a way to make me smile and laugh in the process. I love him and will be eagerly watching to see his newest post and obession!

Thanks for the encouragement! I really can't believe that the baby is almost here. I must admit, I'm a little like Kit, although not as obscure things, I definitely have my very short lived obsessive hobbies!

Mike has that obsession thing too. When he finds a hobby, he has to do it none stop and then a few weeks/month later, you wouldn't even know it was something he was interested in. Last fall it was rock climbing but hopefully that will become a regular hobby because we spent quite a bit of money buying equipment. Then it was making hemp jewelry then playing the guitar. This month it is running and that is starting to progress into triathlons. I think competing in triathlons is a good hobby but I would be pretty sad if we spent a lot of money on the equipment and he didn't do it after this summer.

My hubby fears this will happen to me (his mom has lots and lots of Marzipan incidents so I guess he fears I'll turn into this) so he's made a rule - we can't start a new project until we finish the one we are working on. And well, it works! I actually get stuff done before moving on. But I'm sure I'm missing out on all sorts of adventures!

I love it!! That is one of the reasons I love my brother...he is crazy! We have to give credit to Dale (Sydnee's husband and Kit's brother-in-law) who coined the term when we were all playing dominos and Kit all of a sudden go up and insisted on finding a recipe for marzipan. We fondly refer to that as the first "Marzipan Incident".

Liberty, as you well know, I have a taller version of Kit. His whims may not have been quite as unique, but never the less just as many. I feel your pain! No one can say we've had a boring life!
