Gunner was a big surprise. We had decided we would wait to get pregnant for another 6 months or so, due to some ovarian problems of mine and I was in school at night trying to get my nursing degree. The Lord had other plans for us. I went in for a pre-op ultrasound and imagine my complete surprise when there was a little someone on the screen with arm and leg buds! I was 8 weeks pregnant! (I REALLY didn't think it was possible-I was on the pill for my o-problems and took it faithfully! My doctor laughed (HE DID!) and told me I must be that 0.01% ...haahaa). The problem now was adjusting my way of thinking to the Lord's way. I am so thankful for the priesthood in our home so Kit could give me blessings. I needed quite the adjustment in my plans-and Kit and I found how special this little boy is. He is a latter-day warrior, chosen for this exact time and a very special purpose. Sometimes I laugh at our warrior and how un-warrior like he is, but I understand the bigger picture now.
Kit and I were very excited when we knew our boys would have another brother and fell in love with him when he arrived looking like Yoda with reddish-blond fuzz up top. No, I'm not one of those mommies who think their baby is the most beautiful thing of all when they arrive. I think they were all cute in their own way, but Josiah looked like Yertle the Turtle, Gavin looked like a little Troll baby and Gunner arrived looking a lot like Yoda. Thankfully my children get prettier as they get older ;).
Gunner is curious and loves to point and look around. He is rather content, however with spending most of his time in his Mommy's arms and sucking his thumb. He crawls and cruises everywhere, but is not really anxious in taking the leap from a few steps to walking. He loves his brothers and can't get enough of their antics. He adores his Daddy and hurries to him when Kit comes home. We all love our mellow little Gunner and thank the Lord for seeing fit to place him in our home.
Happy Birthday, Gunnison!!!
Kit wants me to add the disclaimer that he sounds like a dork in both the videos and his real voice doesn't sound like Big Bird's.

I had to laugh about the big bird voice, but kids just bring out the best in all of us!! I thought that it was a great video and loved the kids..they love parties don't they. Happy birthday gunner!
I wouldn't have even thought about Big Bird, but since you said it, I think Kit kind of does sound like him! (Sorry Kit!)
Gunner is so cute! I love how he put his whole hand on top of the cake after he tasted a few bites. That's what I'm talking about!
P.S. Your couch really does look like mine!
Happy Birthday! What a fun surprise! And Kit does sounds like Big Bird - but I probably wouldn't have even noticed had he not mentioned it. ha ha! :o)
Happy B-day Gunner!
That video is absolutely adorable--just like your kids! I love it.
Like everyone else, I would not have thought Big Bird until the disclaimer and then I said, "yeah, he does, doesn't he." We know Kit doesn't walk around talking like that all the time, but it would be funny if he did. LOL.
I definitely wouldn't have thought of big bird unless you mentioned it, and it's very true! Gunner is darling. Happy Birthday!
Oh, thank you so much for sharing Gunner's birthday with all of us! I have been checking faithfully for a Gunner birthday post...and I wasn't disapointed...it was wonderful! Your boys are so cute and Gunner has definetly grown since I have seen him. I loved him eating his cake! He loved it! Happy birthday, dear little Gunner! Auntie loves you and thanks the heavens you were sent here for us to love.
Okay, icky pic of me...ewwww!! Bad hair and preggo...not a good combo. Um, sorry Kit, your voice was laugh-out-loud funny. I seriously laughed-out-loud...but I get it...he was talking "baby" for his little one. Very cute. And finally, you are looking fab!! I can really tell you've lost weight, your face is looking quite thin. Yay, for you!
Happy birthday Gunner! You are so blessed to have such a beautiful family, inside and out. The video was so sweet. I must know your secret to looking so good, Liberty!
What a cutie. Gotta love the thumb suckers. However, it is not nearly as cute on their 5th birthday! Josiah apparently told everyone at school that it was Gunner's birthday because that is the first thing Hayden mentioned when she got in the car.
Yes, but they made such cute Yertle the Turtle, Troll (like the dolls), and Yoda. Ahhh, I love a mommy with a good sense of humor!
Love the birthday post-it was sentimental w/out being sappy...just perfect! Gunner really is such a special little boy and I just love him to bits!
PS-I still think you look waaay to cute in your post-labor pics for it to be legal :P
I still can't believe you have three kids and that your baby is not getting to be such a baby anymore. It was wonderful to hear your voice, it's been way too long since we've actually talked! I loved your post and must say I took a step back about my recent complainings when I read about your little, now 1 year old, "surprise". Still don't know how you do this with three kids. Are you still trying to finish your nursing degree on top of being a mom/wife? Oh and about the big bird voice, I've come to terms with the fact that I will forever now speak in baby language...it happens to everyone!
I loved this post! That is very cool that you got Gunner that way you did, it is a very special story!
Hey Liberty! I must say after 7 hours of natural labor you look fabulous! I love reading about Gunner's bday! You have a cute family!! I hope you dont mind me checking out your blog- very fun!!
