It's Autumn Time!

I love the fall. It is by far my favorite season. Down here we don't get a great fall, but a girl can dream, right? To make me feel more in the season, I decided to decorate-quite the feat for me. I haven't really had the desire or energy to do much lately, so what little I did was a fabulous accomplishment. So, I wanted to share them with you. I actually found the little flower wreath at Walmart and I wired it and a berry strand to a grape-vine wreath I had. It plumped it up a bit and added more demension. I was pleased with the result. I'm not really talented in the flower arranging area and it would have looked better with a bow, but I am SO not capable of making beautiful bows...so my wreath is unadorned. I also took a little time to primp and prime my little ghosties and my cheap mums in their flower box. I was excited for the feel of fall around my home. I also hope Kit will find it to be a fun little sprucing up for his return home.

Josiah

It seems I often write about how crazy Gavin is...he is, but Josiah can be quite the silly little boy himself. He wanted me to post a couple pictures of him on this blog and he wants to share a song he learned in school with our family and friends. He sure makes me laugh. The other day he was so tired and didn't want to get up to get ready for school. He rolled over, hid his head and told me he wished he was a badger. I asked why and he said, "Remember, they are nocturnal...I wouldn't have to get up until nighttime!" I laughed, but had to sigh when he woke bright and early Saturday morning to watch cartoons. He is such a bright and curious boy. He is always asking questions and trying to figure things out. He has such an amazing memory and remembers almost everything I say (darn it!) and things we read. With his bright eyes and infectious smile, Josiah is a blessing to our family.

Josiah wearing his "Hat" - he came bounding out with nighttime underwear on his head, receiving the laughs he wanted (note his bony little legs in his baggy boxer briefs...the site always cracks me up!)

Sleepless in Mobile

I am writing this blog at midnight...I can't go to sleep!!! Ugghh...I had a diet coke today and now I can't fall asleep! After being tired most the day, the caffeine needs to affect me now. I decided I would complain about it on my blog, well, because I don't have anyone to prod awake to keep me company (Kit is gone again for training). I'm just kidding-I don't make Kit stay awake if I can't sleep. He's usually the one battling insomnia and complaining about how hot I make the bed. It is funny how I slept 20 years without a body next to me...well, not counting poor little Whit who had to share her bed with me when I moved home before getting married (so sorry about the uncomfortable cuddlings) and now it is always hard to fall asleep without my husband's form next to me in bed. Hmmm...the problem is I know I have to be awake at 6:30 to take care of getting Jos off to school...Here's hoping playing on the internet and being a blogger-stalker for an hour will help lull me to sleep.

Bedtime Moments

So-I get my babies into bed between 7 and 7:30 pm. Early for some of you out there, but for us, my boys need the rest as do Kit and I. They are allowed to "read" books until they fall asleep, which depending on the day can be within minutes, but usually within a half-hour. Some nights it is so simple to put them to bed...others, not so simple. Josiah is usually quiet and no problem. Gavin, on the other hand, is often full of queries, complaints and requests. Tonight for example:

G: Are you putting Gunner to bed?
M: Yes, go to sleep, Gav.

G: Mommy, I gotta go pee-pee! (I took him before bed)
M: Ok, come on out and go. (Meanwhile I'm reading Gunner his story and getting him into bed)

**I tuck G into bed again after he manages to squeeze out a couple of drops**

G: Mommy, I need one more teeny-tiny "gink", just one (meanwhile G is banging on the door and getting Jos all riled 'cause he's opening and closing the door)
M: Ok...now go TO sleep (after his "teeny-tiny" drink)

G: Mommy, I gotta go pee-pee!
M: You just went
G: But I have to!!
M: Ok...but you have to go to bed after this, no more anythings
G: We can't go talk? (where does he come up with it?)
M: No, to bed. Where's your pee-pee? (as we stand there and nothing is coming out)
G: No pee-pee...my batteries are out. Maybe you could get me new ones.
M: Maybe it just means it is bedtime.
G: Yeah

After a couple of kisses, big Dumbo (a large stuffed elephant) is tucked in, and one more tiny "gink" , little man is off to bed and asleep within minutes. Ahhh, my house is quiet...
