Missing the South

Happy Fat Tuesday, ya'll! I am missing the deep Southern culture this time of year. The yummy stickiness of King Cake, the spice of boiled peanuts and the fabulous parades throwing beads, stuffed animals and moon pies into the waiting arms of my cheering children. Ahhh, Mardi Gras, how we miss you. I did purchase a King Cake this year, but had to find one at a specialty grocer. ...sigh... and when your children reminisce about how they miss their Mardi Gras school break, you know we're missing Alabama.

So a little feel of the Soul of the South from a band with our {{Albama}} love goin' on...

What is King Cake? Inquiring minds want to know. :)

Jill:It is a sweet bread pastry usually in the form of a ring or a round cake. It sometimes has filling, but sometimes not. It has icing and green, yellow and purple sugar sprinkles on it. Traditionally, a Christ-child (little plastic baby) is hidden inside the cake and whoever finds it is responsible for bringing the King Cake at the next party. Sometimes for children, they are called King/Queen of the party and help to lead festivities.

Oh, Liberty...the South misses the Applegate family! We wish you were here with us...we have the entire week off for Mardi Gras this year! Maybe you can make it for a visit soon! :) Hugs!

We all know my abiding love for all things mardi gras and the deep south. Pretty sure I'm a southerner at heart (did I ever tell you growing up my fave state was Georgia? I had never been there, but it just seemed so...southern ;). Love the song too! I'm with Steph...more beads, please!

I agree! It is about the only time I miss Houston! I wanted to actually have a Mardi Gras party this year and make jambalaya, but it didn't work out. Next year!
