Bedtime Moments

So-I get my babies into bed between 7 and 7:30 pm. Early for some of you out there, but for us, my boys need the rest as do Kit and I. They are allowed to "read" books until they fall asleep, which depending on the day can be within minutes, but usually within a half-hour. Some nights it is so simple to put them to bed...others, not so simple. Josiah is usually quiet and no problem. Gavin, on the other hand, is often full of queries, complaints and requests. Tonight for example:

G: Are you putting Gunner to bed?
M: Yes, go to sleep, Gav.

G: Mommy, I gotta go pee-pee! (I took him before bed)
M: Ok, come on out and go. (Meanwhile I'm reading Gunner his story and getting him into bed)

**I tuck G into bed again after he manages to squeeze out a couple of drops**

G: Mommy, I need one more teeny-tiny "gink", just one (meanwhile G is banging on the door and getting Jos all riled 'cause he's opening and closing the door)
M: Ok...now go TO sleep (after his "teeny-tiny" drink)

G: Mommy, I gotta go pee-pee!
M: You just went
G: But I have to!!
M: Ok...but you have to go to bed after this, no more anythings
G: We can't go talk? (where does he come up with it?)
M: No, to bed. Where's your pee-pee? (as we stand there and nothing is coming out)
G: No pee-pee...my batteries are out. Maybe you could get me new ones.
M: Maybe it just means it is bedtime.
G: Yeah

After a couple of kisses, big Dumbo (a large stuffed elephant) is tucked in, and one more tiny "gink" , little man is off to bed and asleep within minutes. Ahhh, my house is quiet...

I envy you being child-free after 7:30. I am still running around the house trying to get the end of the day chores done. Gavin's bedtime ordeal sounds like Merilee's. But, it is so nice to have the house nice a quiet...even if you are too tired to do anything else!!

Poor Lib!! I can be somewhat sympathetic to the bedtime ordeal. Greyson's bowel/bladder decide to work overtime (or so he thinks) as soon as bedtime comes. He also becomes very afraid of well...everything that goes "boo" in the night. But the relief and release when you know all are sleeping soundly...well, not much can compare.
BTW...i love that his batteries have ran out. he is just too darn cute. his imagination is like none others...kisses to little G.

I love this post. I can just hear Gavin! Ariel used to be like that and I'm such a mean mommy that one night I was at my wits end and I said, "If you don't go to bed, I'm going to shut off your night light (she was scared of the dark) and if you still are not quiet once the light is out, I will shut the door." That did the trick for her. Poor dear. I'm sure she layed there thinking, "I have the meanest mom in the world". But I was like, "why didn't I think of that trick sooner". She totally fell for it.
